Veteran Musician Anna Mwale says music is her passion that never stops and that it brings her great joy. Singing since the 1980s, Mwale has continued her music in Germany where she has been living for more than three decades now.
Alongside her music career, Mwale and her husband Michael Hahn, an engineer and a German national, own an engineering company. With the support of her husband, Mwale has continued to write and record songs while playing her part in the family business.
Known for her early 80s hit song, “Excuse me”, inspired by her family, Mwale takes to the stage tonight to perform at the prestigious Ngoma Awards ceremony at the Mulungushi International Conference Center in the capital Lusaka. She will be backed by her music producer Erik Groesch who will be handling the lead electric guitar along with members of the B Sharp who include second leader guitarist Jones Kabanga.
Others are Evans Shawa on the Keyboard; Barnabas Ngoma on the drums; Ian Nyirenda handling the bass guitar; Abel Chanda beating the African drums and Brian Kenete handling the kongas. Mwale’s sisters, Mau, Muki, Penja and her niece Sepo Siyandi will be backing her while the traditional dance will be performed by Lovemore Mulangu. Mwale will be singing, in addition to “Excuse me”, two other songs entitled Kabuku, inspired by her mother and a bank book and Jake, an ode to her late brother Jack who taught her how to play guitar.
“It’s a great honor for me to part of such an event”, Mwale says of the Ngoma Awards, adding, “I’m looking forward to being on stage with my sisters and such great musicians after such a long time”.
In answer to the question of what lies behind her continued stay on the music stage, Mwale says, “The passion and love for music is the answer to everything. Dedication and respect for the art”.
