The 2023 Kwacha Music Award for best artist of the year from Northwestern Province went to Clement Chiyesu, alias COX.
The Kabompo-born songwriter and rapper who won the honour over Boy Kay, Deny Gee Kachaku, Junior Sabala, and Kell Cee Zambia, has been providing his fans with back-to-back hits.
He became well-known due to the success of his rap songs particularly among the youths in Northwestern.
In 2021, Cox released a song titled “Luvale girl” which featured XYZ entertainment founder and rapper SlapDee. The song received massive airplay in the province and beyond as he celebrated the uniqueness of the women in the province.
This year, he won the popularity vote to feature on multi award winning musician, Macky 2’s 10 of 10 album which saw artists from all the province record a song and video.
Cox went on to compose a song titled “Chisola” on which vocalist, Neo featured.
The song once again celebrated the uniqueness and hardworking women in the province and it became an anthem not only in the province but accross boarders.
Meanwhile, Elton Mulenga aka Yo Maps was the star of the night, scooping five awards.
The “Try again” hit maker went home with five awards, including Album of the Year and Best Male Artist which he dedicated to his wife Kidist.
This came after losing the awards last year to Chile one who only went home with one accolades for the best Copperbelt province artist of the year.
