Bob Marley's youngest son carries his father's torch high while developing his own style.  A style which, from album to album, has raised Damian Marley to the top.

Born on July 21, 1978 in Kingston from the king of reggae's relationship with Miss World 1976, Cindy Breakspeare, Damian Marley will hardly know his father, who died when he was only two years old.  He began in music with the Shepherds, a group of children of singers.  After numerous stage appearances, notably at Reggae Sunsplash in 1992, the group disbanded and Damian turned to dancehall.  His first single "Deejay Degree" was released in 1993 on Tuff Gong, the label founded by his father.

His first album, "Mr Marley", produced by his brother Stephen, was released in 1995. If the opus allowed him to tour a little, the success was not really there.  Damian sharpens his art and returns in 2001 with “Halfway Tree”.  From then on, we clearly perceive the multiple inspirations of the artist and the influence of hip-hop in his work.  Between paternal and cultural tradition and modernity, he does not hesitate to mix his Jamaican reggae with American rap.  The album welcomes guests Bunny Wailer, Capleton, or even Bounty Killer.  The opus is very good but wins more a success of esteem.  Damian will explode with his next album, "Welcome To Jamrock".

His third album released in 2005 will enthuse the public as soon as it is released, will be a hit and will go so far as to win a well-deserved Grammy Award for best reggae album.  The eponymous title of the album, a dark portrait of the singer's native island which samples Brigadier Jerry and Ini Kamoze, becomes a real hymn.  The second single is "Road To Zion", the first result of a collaboration that will prove fruitful with the American rapper Nas.  Five years later, the two artists will deliver an entire album, "Distant Relatives", released on May 17, 2010. The album, beyond the mix of hip-hop and reggae.
